Contemporary Kitchen with Granite Island
Not every kitchen needs to be a statement. This one is built around how a kitchen actually gets used day to day — durable surfaces, an island with genuine working space, and a layout that keeps the cook out of everyone else's way.
Granite remains one of the most practical countertop choices available, and in a contemporary kitchen it provides the natural variation that keeps otherwise clean lines from feeling sterile.

How it gets built
The sequence matters as much as the selections. Work done out of order is the most common reason remodels run long.
Working the triangle
Sink, cooktop and refrigerator get positioned relative to each other before cabinetry is drawn. In an island kitchen the island either helps that flow or fights it, depending on whether it sits inside the path between the three or outside it.
Island power and plumbing
An island with a sink or cooktop needs plumbing and dedicated circuits routed through the slab or floor framing — decided at rough-in, because it is genuinely difficult to add later. Even a prep-only island wants receptacles, and code requires them.
Slab selection in person
Granite varies significantly slab to slab, far more than engineered stone. We select the actual slab at the yard rather than ordering from a sample chip, because the pattern you get is the pattern in front of you, not the one in the catalogue.
Templating and install
Digital templating after cabinet set, then fabrication and install. Seams get placed where they are least visible and where the pattern can be matched across the joint.

Design Notes
Granite's practical advantage over most alternatives is heat tolerance — you can set a hot pan down on it without the anxiety that comes with solid surface or laminate. Sealing once a year keeps it stain-resistant, and that is genuinely the whole maintenance routine.
A contemporary kitchen lives or dies on consistent reveals. Flat-panel doors have nowhere to hide a misaligned gap, so the install time goes into alignment rather than into detail work.
